Common Spectacles
Spectacle, n., something exhibited to view as unusual, notable, or entertaining; especially an eye-catching or dramatic public display

In 2009, I relocated from my native home of New England to Southern California. This work originated from my subjective documentation of this unfamiliar experience and the visual psychology of exisiting in an unknown sense of place. The resulting body of images, 'Common Spectacles', deals with my fascination of everyday occurrences and the seemingly banal situations we observe in our driveway, driving in cars and in public spaces. When put into photographic context, the consequential tableaux create recurring motifs of spectacle, voyeurism, absurdity, ambiguity and disconnection with the surrounding environment.
